About Jared Tatro
Instrumentation and Controls Engineering and SCADA Software Systems Integration professional with 16 years of experience bridging critical industrial control infrastructure with modern software engineering.
Engineering Critical Systems from Edge to Enterprise
With over 16 years in industrial automation, my career spans the full spectrum of operational technology. I have designed and delivered full turnkey SCADA systems for extreme, isolated environments, such as remote Alaskan villages where reliability is a matter of community survival, all the way to leading the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) discipline team for a massive 300 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) regional water facility for a major West Coast county government utility.
The interest started much earlier. I began exploring computers at ten years old in 1996, initially through gaming, and was building my own PCs by about twelve. From then on I became the unofficial technical support person for family, friends, and coworkers. That lifelong habit of taking systems apart mentally, understanding why they work, why they fail, and how they could be better, is still the foundation of how I approach automation and software.
The Bread & Butter Platforms
My core expertise centers around architecting and deploying large-scale systems in FactoryTalk View Site Edition (SE), Ignition SCADA (Perspective & Vision), and AVEVA System Platform (Wonderware ArchestrA). While hardware- and software-agnostic by practice, these three ecosystems represent my deep specialty.
Beyond software logic and HMI design, a significant part of my work involves server hardware and network architecture: specifying primary and hot-backup redundant servers, architecting secure DMZ conduits, configuring historian clusters, and enforcing strict Purdue Model network isolation for industrial cybersecurity.
Having engineered systems out of the Bellevue, Washington office and now based in Yakima, Washington, I pair deep instrumentation and controls knowledge with SCADA software systems integration to build telemetry relays, virtual testing rigs, and modern interfaces that bring unprecedented visibility to industrial operations.
I also genuinely enjoy the creative side of technical work: building websites, designing interfaces and graphics, and producing diagrams that make complicated systems easier to understand. This site is where those interests meet. It is a working collection of field notes, repeatable fixes, architecture patterns, and useful tools that I can share and reference later.
